If you are outdoors at 6 a.m. no doubt your ears are filled with the chirping of the birds heralding the arrival of the rising sun.

These winged creatures are not the only participants celebrating the coming of spring. The Oak Ridge Symphony Chorus is diligently rehearsing for its annual solo concert on Saturday, May 2, at the First Baptist Church of Oak Ridge.

Scheduled for 7:30 p.m. May 2, the program includes, among other selections, Handel’s “The King Shall Rejoice” coronation anthem, “Sing a Mighty Song” by Daniel E. Gawthrop, and the Russian sacred hymn “All of Creation Rejoices” by Pavel Chesnokov.

The Chorus recently elected its officers for 2015-16: Roger Johnson, president; Gene Dunaway, secretary; Kim Warther, treasurer; Joan-Ellen Zucker, ORCMA representative; and Nancy Hardin, librarian.

The accompanist is Cathy Whitten. The ensemble is under the baton of Seth Maples.
