Samuel Evans Duncan Sr., age 73, of Knoxville, passed away Saturday, April 4, after a brief illness.

Sam was born in McMinnville, Tennessee, on October 14, 1941, to parents O.E. Duncan and Flossie Evans Duncan.

He married the love of his life, Maxine Tays, on December 30, 1961. Sam and Maxine spent most of their years living in Oak Ridge and Knoxville. Sam had only retired two years ago from many years of service at K-25 and Y-12 in Oak Ridge.

Sam was an avid bass fisherman; even as a small child, Sam would always take his fishing pole on family vacations. He was a longstanding member of the Blue Ridge Bass Masters fishing club in Oak Ridge. His passion for bass fishing went as far as having his handmade fishing lures patented. He also was in the process of writing a book about bass fishing.

Sam is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Maxine Duncan; his son Samuel E Duncan Jr. and his wife Diane of Knoxville; daughter Kimberly Cordell and husband John of Soddy Daisy; grandchildren, Jamie K. Hanlon, Gage and Kami Cordell; great-grandson Beckham V. Stokes; his mother, Flossie Duncan; and brother David Duncan and wife Linda of Oak Ridge. He had many nieces and nephews in addition to his very special friends of the Blue Ridge Bass Masters Club.

He is preceded in death by his father O.E. Duncan, brother Buster Duncan, and sister Suzanne Duncan Hall.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary, 158 South Jefferson Circle, Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The funeral will follow at 7 p.m. with Curtis McClane officiating. Family and friends will meet for a graveside service on Wednesday, April 8, at 2 p.m. at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Heart Association.
