Luther “Stowe” Lenderman, age 85, of Knoxville, passed away Tuesday, March 24, at Shannondale Health Care Center.

He was born July 18, 1929, in Tellico Plains, the son of Luther Scott Lenderman and Elsie Tilley Lenderman.

Mr. Lenderman was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army. He retired from the Department of Energy, where he was an accountant. Mr. Lenderman was a member of the New Life Church of the Nazarene in Oak Ridge, where he sang in the choir and as a soloist. He enjoyed sports of all kinds, especially golf. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Clarence and Wayne Lenderman, and by sisters, Arietta Akins and Gertrude Carringer.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sibyl Massey Lenderman; sons, Gary Lenderman and wife Karen, and Alan Lenderman and wife Sherry, all of Knoxville; sister, Mayme Kinser and husband Howard of Madisonville; and two grandchildren, Ashley Lenderman and Seth Lenderman.

The family received friends on Friday, March 27, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at New Life Church of the Nazarene, 200 Lafayette Drive, Oak Ridge. The funeral followed at 7:30 p.m. with Rev. Keith Robinson officiating. Family and friends met at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 28, at the Druid Hills Baptist Church Cemetery in Tellico Plains for a graveside service with his daughter-in-law, Rev. Sherry Lenderman officiating. Military honors were provided by the VFW Post #5156 of Sweetwater.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any memorials be made in his memory to a missions program of your local church.

Weatherford Mortuary is handling the arrangements. An online guest book can be signed at www.weatherfordmortuary.com.
