He had previously worked in law enforcement. He had a passion for his animals, and loved plants, rocks (rough to finish), and was co-owner of The Rock Shop in Oliver Springs. He was an active member of the Smokey Mountain Mineral Society.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Elizabeth (Liles) Googe; son, Jerry Lynn Googe; three brothers and one sister.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Barbara Isenberg Googe of Oliver Springs; children, Shyrl Ann Googe, Wilford (Suling) Googe, George Googe, Guy (Lisa) Googe, Hugh Googe, Fairlena Googe; daughter-in-law, Karen Googe; sister, Anna Bell (Don) Rather of Oliver Springs; brothers, Millard W. (Claudia) Googe of Louisiana and Marvin S. (Jerry) Liles of New York; and his loving “Googe Grandchildren” Jeremiah, Talen, Cole, Andrew, Jon, Hope, Songli; and many other family members, neighbors, and good friends.

George was very instrumental in the planning and building of the DAV Building (Chapter 26) 530 Kingston Avenue, Oliver Springs. The family received friends for him there on Saturday, March 28, from 8:30 to 10 a.m. The funeral service began at 10 a.m. with Bro. Brooky Gray and Bro. Omer Cox speaking. Interment was at 2:30 p.m. in Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren Cemetery, 7430 Pelleaux Rd, Knoxville.
