James Granville Johnston

Staff Sergeant James Granville Johnston, age 28, of Clarksville, formerly of Oak Ridge, passed on Sunday, March 15.

Jim was a 2004 Oak Ridge High School graduate, an Eagle Scout in Troop 328, and an avid hunter, fisherman, and outdoorsman. He served two tours of duty in Afghanistan and was assigned to HHB 101st Division Artillery, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

He was admired and respected by family, friends, and fellow soldiers for his love of country, bravery and leadership, gentle nature, loyal friendship, and sense of humor. He exemplified the character of an Eagle Scout. Jim was passionately devoted to his wife Lacey.

Jim is survived by his wife Lacey; father and mother Bill and Margaret; brother Adam Sharp; sisters Rebecca and Sarah Ellen; and father-in-law and mother-in-law Richard and Mabel Hubbs, as well as Lacey’s sisters, Jacqueline Psensky and Jody Martin. He is also survived by grandfathers, J.W. Johnston and SSG Gene Hubbs.

A graveside service was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 21, at Anderson Memorial Gardens, 640 Oliver Springs Highway (Hwy 61), Clinton, TN. To celebrate Jim’s life, a BBQ lunch, photographs and tall tales will be shared at the Johnston house at 1101 Tuskegee Drive, Oak Ridge following the service.

Jim and Lacey’s families request that, in lieu of flowers, Jim be honored with donations in his name to the Boy Scouts of America or the Wounded Warrior Project.

Weatherford Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements. An on-line guest book can be signed at www.weatherfordmortuary.com.
