Anderson County Trustee Rodney Archer understands citizens’ frustrations and concerns about being able to pay their property taxes on time, a press release said.
“With county offices being closed much of last week, and again yesterday, because of inclement weather and dangerous road conditions, it has made people nervous about being able to pay their property taxes by the February 28 deadline,†Archer said Wednesday morning. “The inclement weather that’s predicted for tonight doesn’t help that.”
The National Weather Service is predicting a 40 percent chance of snow today after 4 p.m., with increasing chances overnight, mainly between 7 p.m. and 1 a.m. New snow accumulation of one to three inches is possible. A chance of snow continues through Thursday as well.
Despite the predicted inclement weather, the Trustee’s Offices—located in the Anderson County Courthouse in Clinton, at the Larry Dickens Office Building Emory Valley Road in Oak Ridge, and near Andersonville—will make every effort to be open the rest of this week, Archer said. Employees are planning to work from 9 a.m. to noon this Saturday as well.
But, in light of the weather situation, Archer says his office will accept hand-delivered or postmarked mail for on-time property tax payments through 5 p.m. Monday, March 2.
“Payments made in person or postmarked by the end of the business day Monday will be considered on time and can avoid late fees and penalties,†Archer said. “We can’t control the weather, but we do want to help the citizens.”
If citizens are unable to pay their taxes in person or postmark their tax payment by Monday, Archer asks that citizens call the Trustee’s Office at (865) 457-6233 to make arrangements in order to avoid penalties.
The Trustee said he will announce via WYSH Radio (AM 1380) if his offices will be closed because of winter weather.
