Obituary: Aaron Trey Gunter

Aaron Trey Gunter, age 17, a resident of the Stephens community in Morgan County, passed away Monday, January 26, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

Aaron was born November 3, 1997, in LaFollette. He has lived in this area all of his life.

Aaron was a student at Central High School in Wartburg. He additionally attended the Morgan County Career and Technical Center, where he was a welding student and enthusiast. He formerly attended the Coalfield School.

Aaron loved life, and especially spending time with his family and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Billy Gunter and Glenda Gunter; by his maternal grandmother, Juanita Jones Cooper; by his maternal great-grandparents, Miller and Cassie Jones, and Jess and Glenice Young; by paternal great-grandparents, Walter and Cumi Gunter; by a brother, Brian White; and by a sister, Carly Duncan.

He is survived by his mother, Bridget Branam and companion Scotty Scarbro of Stephens; by his father, Timothy Allen Gunter and companion Pam Gouge of Oliver Springs; by brothers, Cody Cooper and companion Kayla Hendley of Oliver Springs, and Billy Gouge of Oliver Springs; by sisters, Glenda Gouge of Oliver Springs, and Cassie Williams and husband Michael Human of Coalfield; by a step-brother, Matthew Dagley and his son Colton; and by maternal grandparents, Richard and Carolyn Young.

He is also survived by special uncles, Leo and Jamie Jenkins of Coalfield, Jason York of Stephens, and Brian Weaver and wife Aretha and their daughter Brianna, all of Kentucky; and by cousins, Alissa Laymance, Elijah, Peyton, Cheyenne, Thomas and Hope Jenkins; and by a niece, Jade Human, and nephews, Laym and Dakota Human.

A visitation and funeral was held for his fellow classmates at Calvary Baptist Church in Wartburg, on Thursday, January 29, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., with the funeral service following at 1 p.m. with Pastor James Basler officiating. Additionally there was a visitation on Thursday evening in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m., with the funeral to immediately follow at 8 p.m. with Pastor James Basler officiating as well.

Burial and interment were at noon Friday, January 30, at Stephens Cemetery.
