A light layer of snow dusted Oak Ridge on Tuesday morning, and schools were closed in Anderson and Roane counties.
The Anderson County Schools’ Central Office was following its bad weather procedures. The Roane County Schools’ Central Office opened one hour late.
Oak Ridge Schools opened on time.
Clinton City Schools reported that roads were clear in Clinton—”and school buildings are warm”—and schools would open on time.
A snow depth map posted by the National Weather Service in Morristown showed light accumulations, if any, across much of East Tennessee as of 8 a.m. Tuesday, but snowfall of up to nine inches was reported in the Great Smoky Mountains.
Forecasters said there is a chance of morning snow showers or flurries and additional snowfall of one-half inch or less across the region.
The forecast near Oak Ridge called for a 20 percent chance of snow before 1 p.m. Monday, and a high near 39 under mostly cloudy skies.
Forecasters said there is a chance of snow again later this week, on Thursday and Friday morning. Thursday’s forecast calls for a chance of snow before 10 a.m. and then a chance of rain showers. The chance of precipitation is 40 percent. Friday’s forecast calls for a 10 percent chance of snow before 7 a.m. See the forecast here.
