Robert Burton Provine Jr.

Robert B. Provine, a lifetime resident of Oak Ridge, passed away on Thursday, December 4, from complications of dementia.

Robert was born on November 13, 1945, the second of five children of Robert and Anita Provine, who proceeded him in death.

He is survived by brothers John and David; sisters Susie James (Jack) and Jennifer; nephews Michael, Joey, and Judson; and nieces Lisa, Bailey, and Hilary. Robert was also predeceased by his niece Heather.

Robert’s family was among the original settlers of Oak Ridge, his father having worked during World War II at the Manhattan Project. 

Robert joined the U.S. Army in 1964 and served bravely in the Vietnam conflict.

In his civilian life, he worked for 30 years as a heavy equipment mechanic for the City of Oak Ridge in the Public Works garage, from which he retired in August 2010.

Robert maintained a positive attitude throughout his life. He had a gentle, kind spirit and was always quick to offer help to anyone and everyone.

Robert’s family will be receiving friends at the Martin Funeral Home Oak Ridge, on Wednesday, December 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial service and interment at the National Cemetery in Maryville will follow at a later date.
