Grounds Beautification Work Day—AMSE is seeking volunteers to help beautify our grounds from 9-noon. Volunteers are encouraged to bring gloves, planting tools, and any extra plants to donate to our flowerbeds. Hot beverages will be provided.
Homeschool Program: Electricity—Students will participate in activities that teach concepts relating to static electricity and direct current. K-2nd grade program is from 10:30 – 11:30 and cost $5 members or $7 non-members. The 3rd – 6th grade program begins at 12:30 – 2:30 and cost $9 members or $12 non-members. “Scandal in the Secret City” Book Signing—On Saturday, December 6, 2014 Diane Fanning will be a guest of the American Museum of Science and Energy signing copies of her latest novel, SCANDAL IN THE SECRET CITY, from 2-4pm. The book signing is a free event.

STEAM out Hunger Exhibit—Grade-school students from the Stanford Eisenberg Knoxville Jewish Day School are building a canned food sculpture, featuring the school’s name and ram mascot, for a “STEAM Out Hunger.” The project is inspired by Knoxville’s Holiday Canstruction event hosted by Messer Construction. ConAgra and Bush Beans donated the 1,440 canned-food building blocks for the sculpture. The Besmann Family Fund for Social Justice and Spiritual Enrichment of the Knoxville Jewish Community Family of Funds also provided support.

STEAM out Hunger food drive—As part of the “STEAM Out Hunger” exhibit, AMSE is offering free admission during a weekend-long food drive. Admission will be free to visitors who bring four canned or non-perishable food items per person. All food collected and the cans from the exhibit structure will be donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank to provide hunger relief in the East Tennessee community.

Homeschool Program: What Weather?—Students will study cloud types, temperature, air pressure, wind speed and direction, rainfall, humidity, and the meaning of highs, lows, and fronts.
