Marsha Sega is the middle school science and math teacher at St. Mary’s School in Oak Ridge. Her work preparing her students to use and excel in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) won her the local Air Force Association chapter’s Teacher of the Year Award earlier this year.
The second part of the award was presented in the form of a check from Stephen Dillenburg, chapter president of the local Air Force Association on September 24 in the St. Mary’s School library, a press release said.
Five of Sega’s students won special awards at the Southern Appalachian Science and Engineering Fair on April 3. The first- and second-place winners from the high school division were also former students of St. Mary’s. For 11 out of the last 13 years, St. Mary’s middle school students have won grand champion at the SASEF.
St. Mary’s is an award-winning Catholic school founded in 1950 that offers pre-K to 8th-grade classes, the press release said. A National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, the school is known for its excellent math, technology, and science programs, as well as small class sizes, individualized instruction, athletic programs, and after-school care, the release said.
