THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 13

Lecture on protecting trees in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park – November 13

Location:  Roane State Community College – City Room.  Time:  6:00pm – 8:00pm

The lecture “New Efforts to Protect the Native Trees of GSMNP:  Preventing the Invasion of Non-native Forest Pests” will be given by Mr. Martin Wood, Conservation Coordinator with the Tennessee Nature Conservancy.  This lecture series is jointly sponsored by the UT Arboretum Society and the Tennessee Clean Water Network.  For more information on this lecture, call the Arboretum at 865-483-3571.  To learn more about the Arboretum Society, visit www.utarboretumsociety.org.

Oak Ridge High School Football Playoffs – Round 2.  – November 14

Time:  7:00pm

 

2014 Arts & Crafts Fair – November 14

Location Oak Ridge Civic Center.  Price:  FREE.  Time:  10:00am – 7:00pm

Proceeds from this fundraiser will be used to help pay for the projects the Pilot Club of Oak Ridge sponsor throughout the year.

 

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 15

2014 Arts & Crafts Fair – November 15

Location Oak Ridge Civic Center.  Price:  FREE.  Time:  9:00am – 5:00pm

Proceeds from this fundraiser will be used to help pay for the projects the Pilot Club of Oak Ridge sponsor throughout the year.

 

Special Class from the Environmental Center’s Nature Study at Children’s Museum – November 15

Location:  ChildrenÂ’s Museum of Oak Ridge – 461 West Outer Drive, Oak Ridge.  Time:  10:00am

Oak Ridge High School Student Council Flea Market – thru last weekend in November           

Location:  Oak Ridge High School parking lot (O.R. Turnpike side).

 

Oak Ridge Farmers Market – Every Saturday

Location:  Adjacent to Historic Jackson Square (East Tennessee Avenue, Oak Ridge).  Time:  8:00am – Noon

 

Saturday Tennis – Saturday Tennis Group – Every Saturday

Location:  Jackson Square Tennis Courts – Broadway Avenue, Oak Ridge

This group meets each Saturday at 1:30pm when it is 40 degrees or warmer.  Community players of all levels are invited.  Just show up and ask for the Coordinator, Rangan Sukumar, he will get you started with players at your own level.  There is no cost.  For more information, contact Rangan Sukumar at 865-474-0519.

 

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 17                    

Ballroom Dancing – Every Monday, 6:30 p.m.

Location:  Wildcat Den Room of the Midtown Community Center.

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 18

Children’s Museum of Oak Ridge hosts “Toddlers’ Playtime” – Every Tuesday at 10:00am

Location:  Children’s Museum of Oak Ridge – Preschool Room

Moms, dads, grandparents, and other caregivers are invited to bring children aged four and younger.  The kids can play while the adults visit with each other.  Admission is FREE for members and included with entry fee for non-members.  For more information, visit www.childrensmuseumofoakridge.org/toddlers-playtime/.

 

Print Making Studio – November 18

Disc Golf:  Random Draw Doubles – Every Tuesday

Location:  Carl Yearwood Disc Golf Course – Bus Terminal Road, Oak Ridge

Time:  6:00pm – 8:00pm.  This is a challenging but short Par 3 disc golf course.  For more information, call 865-425-3450.  This schedule will continue every Tuesday until September 25, 2015.

 

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 19

Oak Ridge Farmers Market – Every Wednesday

Camera Club of Oak Ridge 66th Annual Salon – thru November 20

Location:  New Hope Center – 602 Scarboro Road.

Gallery hours:  Monday-Thursday from 8am-5pm; Saturday November 15 from 10am-2pm.

“Masterworks:  Prints from the Collection of Children’s Museum of Oak Ridge” – Open

Location:  Children’s Museum of Oak Ridge – 461 West Outer Drive, Oak Ridge.

“Kids Go Green” classes – Ongoing

TN Creates – Oak Ridge Art Center – Tuesdays – Saturdays

Location:  Oak Ridge Art Center – 201 Badger Avenue, Oak Ridge.

Time:  9:00am-5:00pm (M-F); 1:00pm-4:00pm (Saturdays)

Exercise for Fitness – Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings

Cinderella – Oak Ridge Playhouse – November 21 – December 7

Location:  Oak Ridge Playhouse Mainstage –Jr. Playhouse – Historic Jackson Square – 227 Broadway, Oak Ridge.

Library Sponsors Affordable Care Act Enrollment Events – November 22 and December 6

Location:  Recreation Center – AB Room – 1403 Oak Ridge Turnpike.  Time:  1:00pm – 6:00pm

“Sousa & Contemporaries” Concert – Oak Ridge Community Band/Wind Ensemble – November 23

Location:  Grove Theater – 123 Randolph Road.  Time:  3:30pm

Thanksgiving Train Ride – Secret City Scenic Excursion Train – November 28 and 29

Location:  Secret City Scenic Excursion Train – 2010 Highway 58, Oak Ridge.

Ride Dates/Times:  11am, 1pm and 3pm

Secret City Half Marathon and 5k Race – November 29 and 30

November 29:  5k race to start/finish near the Oak Ridge Civic Center.  It is a USATF certified course.  Packet pick-up and registration starts at 6:00am.  Race will begin at 7:30am.  To register online, visit http://www.imathlete.com/events/EventOverview.aspx?fEID=14997.

Santa Train Rides – Secret City Excursion Train – December 6, 7, 13, and 14

Santa is sure to delight all the children as he and Mrs. Claus make their way through the coaches passing out Christmas gift bags and posing for pictures.  The train will be decked out in true holiday style.  During the ride, passengers will hear the story of the Manhattan Project, which was one of the most remarkable industrial achievements ever accomplished.  Refreshments and souvenirs are available for purchase in the train’s commissary car. Methodist Medical Center (MMC) Holiday Lights for Hospitality Houses – December 9

Location:  Methodist Medical Center Main Lobby – 990 Oak Ridge Turnpike.  Time:  7:00pm

“Holiday Homecoming” Christmas Parade – December 13

Location:  Oak Ridge.  Time:  6:00pm

Christmas in Old Appalachia – Museum of Appalachia – December 6-24

Music of the season can be heard across the grounds.  Cabins will be decorated in pioneer style, recalling times past when Christmas was a simple family holiday including cedar Christmas trees draped with paper chains, popcorn strings, sweet gum and sycamore balls.  Christmas shoppers will find many hand-crafted items in the gift shop. Hot, country-style lunches are served daily from 11am to 2pm in the museum restaurant and homemade cakes, pies, cookies and other holiday treats are available all day. For more information, contact the museum at 865-494-7680 or visit www.museumofappalachia.org.
