Lois Marie Wiggins Hyde

Lois Marie Hyde

Lois Marie Hyde, age 95, of Oak Ridge, passed away Tuesday, September 23, at Briarcliff Health Center in Oak Ridge.

She was born May 27, 1919, in Bryson City, North Carolina to parents Robert C. and Lula W. Wiggins. She graduated from Swain County High School in 1937.

Lois was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her loving and generous nature warmed the hearts of all who knew her. She and her husband, Clarence, and their children, moved to Oak Ridge in 1952 after living in North Carolina, Virginia, and New York.

Lois was a long-standing member of Central Baptist Church in Oak Ridge, where she had been a member since 1961. She worked in the nursery at the church for many years and was also active in Sunday School and the GoGetters group and made many lifelong friends there.

Among her many interests were gardening, cooking, bird watching, neighborhood walks, and most of all, the company of family, neighbors, and friends. She was a member of the home demonstration club in Clinton and also enjoyed knitting and spent many hours making afghans for family and friends.

The family would like to thank Juanita McGinnis and the many members of Central Baptist Church, who faithfully visited and ministered to her during her lengthy illness. Also, Betty Schaefer and other neighbors for all the nice things they have done through the years. We would also like to thank the staff of Briarcliff for the care, love, and respect they showed to Lois during her stay there.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Cleveland Wiggins and Lula Ellen Walker Wiggins of Bryson City, North Carolina; husband, Clarence Gerald Hyde; son, Gerald (Jerry) Edwin Hyde; and siblings, Irene, Neville, Ralph, Paul, Jack, Juanita, and Oscar.

She is survived by a daughter, Sandra Namken of Gamerco, New Mexico; sons, Robert (Bobby) Hyde and wife Nancy of Oak Ridge, Billy Hyde and wife Rosemary of Clinton; daughters-in-law, Juanita Hyde of Newberry, Florida, and Lisa Hammer of Oak Ridge; grandchildren, Eric and Douglas Hyde, Ginger Valentine, Brian, Neal, and Susan Hyde, Jason Hyde and Rebecca Hethcote, and Jennifer Gentry; step-grandchildren, Denise Wolff, Dena Mahoney, and Kristen DiFanco; great-grandchildren, Tucker and Koby Hyde, Finley Hyde, Steven and Willis Hethcote, Leo Hyde, Jessica and Joshua Lyon, and Ashley Hardy; and step-great-grandchildren, Connor and Collin Wolff, Brenden and Aidan Mahoney, and Hanna and Allyson DiFranco.

The family received friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 28, at Weatherford Mortuary. The funeral began at 2 p.m. with Pastor Glenn Ellis officiating. Interment followed at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
