Betty Jane Hampton

Betty Jane Hampton, 87, of Oak Ridge died Wednesday, October 1, 2014, at Parkwest Medical Center of Knoxville.

Mrs. Hampton was born June 10, 1927, in Blowing Rock, North Carolina, the daughter of Charles and Velma Greene. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Benic Preston Hampton Sr.

She is survived by her son, Benic Preston Hampton Jr. and his wife Debbie, of Maryville; sister, Mary Frances Tolliver and her husband Berdell, of Oak Ridge; grandchildren, Christopher James Hampton and his wife Kristen, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and Heather Megan Mounce and her husband Cory, of Knoxville; great-grandchildren Samantha and Matthew Hampton, and Preston Mounce; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who were like family.

The family wishes to extend their love and gratitude to Manisha Thakur, MD, her personal care givers, as well as other medical personnel who provided Mrs. Hampton with such wonderful care.

The funeral was held at noon Saturday, October 4, at West Village Christian Church in Oak Ridge, with Dr. Bruce Martin officiating. The graveside service followed the funeral at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Chris Hampton, Cory Mounce, Greg Tolliver, Terry Jones, Nathan Jones, Eddie Bailiff, David Poe, and Steve Raulston.

The family received friends Saturday from 10 a.m.-noon at West Village Christian Church at 637 Robertsville Road in Oak Ridge. The funeral began at 12 p.m. at the church, and the interment followed at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
