Wilma Elizabeth Garten

Wilma Elizabeth Garten, age 91, passed away Tuesday, September 2, at Greenfield Senior Living in Oak Ridge.

Wilma was born in Wood County, West Virginia. Prior to moving to Oak Ridge in 2004, she was a longtime resident of both Huntington and Parkersburg, West Virginia.

Wilma was the daughter of the late William Lafe Brand and Hazel Evans Brand. She was a graduate of Parkersburg High School.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, C. Tom Garten; one sister, Ada I. Richards; one brother, Paul E. Brand; and one son, Joseph Albert Garten.

Wilma is survived by two sons, Charles T. Garten Jr., of Knoxville, and William P. Garten, of Hudson, Ohio; and two sisters, Eunice Parsons of Vienna, West Virginia, and Geneva Nichols of Beckley, West Virginia. Wilma is also survived by six grandchildren, Julie, Ched, Tucker, Trammell, Joanna, and Alexandra, plus three great-grandchildren.

She was a past member of Enslow Park Presbyterian Church in Huntington, West Virginia, where she will be inurned in a family service.

The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Greenfield Senior Living for their loving care of Wilma. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1545 Western Avenue, Suite 110A, Knoxville, TN 37921.
