Iris Eunice Thomas Lay

Iris Eunice Thomas Lay, age 84, of Oak Ridge, passed away Friday, August 22, 2014, at the Methodist Medical Center.

She was born March 14, 1930 in Oneida, Tennessee, the daughter of Leland and Nancy Terry Thomas.

Mrs. Lay graduated from the Tennessee School of Beauty. She was the owner/operator of Adorn Beauty Shop and the Vogue Beauty Shop until her retirement, at which time, she continued working at Woodland Beauty Shop.

Mrs. Lay was of the Baptist faith. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed participating in the bridge games at the Senior Center.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Lay in 1996; daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Justin Lay; grandchildren, Britt Ashley Watson, Shelley Denise Massey, and Jordan Drew Watson; sister, Shirley Thomas; and brothers, Eugene and Lee Thomas.

She is survived by daughter, Karen Watson and husband Dennis of the Claxton community; brothers, Clifton Thomas and wife Margaret of Alcoa, James Thomas and wife Martha of Louisville, and Larry Thomas of Maryville; grandchildren, Kimberly Michelle Stout-Walker, Kristin Layne Tadlock and husband Stacy, and Rebecca Ann Mashburn; great-grandchildren, Travis Blake Stout, Bella Walker, Cody Ray Mashburn, Kimberly Mashburn, Crissy Mashburn, Joseph Mashburn, Jalayna Wilkins-LeComte, and Bronwyn, Tegan, and Piper Tadlock.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 26, 2014 from 5-7 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary. The funeral will follow at 7 p.m. Family and friends will meet at 11 a.m. on Wednesday for a graveside service at Anderson Memorial Gardens.

The family asks that memorials be made to the Batten Disease Support and Research Association, 1175 Dublin Road, Columbus, OH 43215. An online guest book can be signed at www.weatherfordmortuary.com.
