How Smart Leaders Create Engaged Employees – Dale Carnegie Workshop Series – Begins August 14

Location:  Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce – 1400 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge.  Time:  7:30am – 9:30am

Oak Ridge After Dark – Hero Night with the showing of The Amazing Spiderman – August 15

Location:  Oak Ridge Civic Center outdoor area (where SCF concerts are held).

Time:  7:00pm (Children’s activities).  9:00pm (Approx) – Amazing Spiderman movie begins.

Summer Daze – The Secret City Scenic Excursion Train – August 15

Ride Times:  1:00pm, and 3:00pm

This train ride gives you the opportunity to experience the journey enjoyed by travelers during the golden age of rail travel in the 1930’s and 40’s.  Passengers will begin their journey back in time abroad Southern Railway coach Fort Oglethorpe, built in 1947.  Advance reservations are required as seating is limited.  Call for ticket prices and departure times at 865-241-2140 and visit the website at www.southernappalachia.railway.museum.

 

SATURDAY, AUGUST 16

Annual Banquet of Mayme Carmichael School Organization – August 16

Location:  New Hope Center – 602 Scarboro Road, Oak Ridge

Summer Daze – The Secret City Scenic Excursion Train – August 16

Ride Times:  11:00, 1:00pm, and 3:00pm.  Dinner Train Ride begins at 6:00pm

This train ride gives you the opportunity to experience the journey enjoyed by travelers during the golden age of rail travel in the 1930’s and 40’s.  Passengers will begin their journey back in time abroad Southern Railway coach Fort Oglethorpe, built in 1947.  On the “dinner train ride”, a delicious dinner prepared by Chef Andras will be served.  Advance reservations are required as seating is limited.  Call for ticket prices at 865-241-2140 and visit the website at www.southernappalachia.railway.museum.

 

East Tennessee Wanderers Walk Notice – August 16

Location:  UT Arboretum – 901 South Illinois Avenue, Oak Ridge.  Time:  9:45am to meet.  Walk will begin at 10:00am.

Join the East Tennessee Wanderers fun walk (approx. 5K) on the nature trails of the UT Arboretum in Oak Ridge.  Walkers will gather in the Visitor Center parking lot at 9:45am.  Walk will begin at 10:00am.  A walking stick would be helpful.  No pets allowed.  The Visitor Center is not open on Saturdays, so the restrooms will not be available, so please make that stop before you come to the walk.  There will be lunch at a restaurant following the walk.  For more information, visitwww.easttennesseewanderers.org or call 315-283-1923.

Location:  Adjacent to Historic Jackson Square (East Tennessee Avenue, Oak Ridge).  Time:  8:00am – Noon

 

Saturday Tennis – Saturday Tennis Group – Every Saturday

Location:  Jackson Square Tennis Courts – Broadway Avenue, Oak Ridge

Ballroom Dancing – Every Monday, 6:30 p.m.

Location:  Wildcat Den Room of the Midtown Community Center.

Location:  Carl Yearwood Disc Golf Course – Bus Terminal Road, Oak Ridge

DOE Facilities Bus Tour – thru August 29

Location:  This bus tour will depart from the American Museum of Science and Energy (AMSE) – 300 South Tulane Avenue.

This tour is free with paid admission to AMSE.  Dates:  Monday-Friday from June 2 thru August 29.

This tour explores the original Manhattan Project sites around Oak Ridge and tells the history behind the development of the world’s first atomic weapon.  Bus participants must be U.S. Citizens, have a photo ID, and be at least 10 years old.  For more information, contact AMSE at 865-576-3200 or visit www.amse.org.

Aid to Distressed Families of Appalachian Counties (ADFAC) Dine & Donate Begins – September 8

“Days of the Pioneer” Antique Show – Museum of Appalachia – September 12-13

Tennessee Fall Homecoming – Museum of Appalachia – October 10-12

Location:  Museum of Appalachia

Clinch River Antique Festival – October 10-11

Location:  Historic Downtown Clinton
