Obituary: Dennis Seiber

Dennis Seiber, age 91, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Monday, July 28, at his home.

Mr. Seiber was born April 16, 1923, on the family farm in Oliver Springs. He was a lifelong resident of this area.

Dennis served his country bravely in the U.S. Army, during World War II, in the 136th infantry division, of the 6th army. He was a duty soldier and a expert marksman “M-1 Carbine.” When he returned home, he brought back both battle scars and a Purple Heart. Additionally, he received the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, for his service in both the battles of Leyte and Luzon Philippine Islands. He also received a combat infantry badge, the WW II Victory Medal, and several other medals and awards. 

He retired from Tennessee Valley Authority as a heavy equipment operator. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and friends.

Mr. Seiber was preceded in death by his parents, Ed Seiber and Mattie Braden Seiber; by his wife, Ethel Thelma Seiber; by a daughter, Valerie Sexton; by sons, Doyle Nelson and Ronald J. Seiber; by a granddaughter, Melissa Frederick; by sisters, Eula Pearl Price and Florence Duncan; and by brothers, Cecil, Ralph, and Charles Ed Seiber.

He is survived by daughters, Roma Jean Shelton and husband John of Knoxville, Nancy Langley and husband Kerry of Oliver Springs, Gail Patterson and husband Marvin Brown of Oliver Springs, and Barbara Seiber of Oliver Springs; by a son, Bruce Seiber and wife Shell of Oliver Springs; by grandchildren, James and Julian Langley, Brandon Brown, Brian West, Joe Seiber, Kenneth Nelson, Robin Patterson, Joshua Simpson, Yolonda Kisler, Tammy Tyke, Amy Seiber, and Amanda Adcox; and by several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, by several special friends, and one special friend, Sergeant Powers, from WWII.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 30, at Sharp Funeral Home between 5 and 7 p.m. with the funeral following at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Wayne Morgan officiating. Burial with full military honors will be held July 31, at noon at Anderson Memorial Gardens.
