William Thomas Alvis, age 75, of Oak Ridge, died Sunday, July 6, 2014, at the Methodist Medical Center.
He was born April 23, 1939, in Florence, Alabama, the son of Floyd Harrison Alvis and Tennie Mae Grigsby Alvis.
Mr. Alvis was a veteran of the USAF and served from 1956–1958. He is the owner of A&M Auto Body in Oliver Springs.
He was a member of the Elks Club #1684 and the Loyal Order of the Moose #1316. Mr. Alvis enjoyed golfing and sports, and was an avid Tennessee fan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Eileen Greene.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Connie Lynn Alvis; sister, Edith Barker and husband Bob of Oak Ridge; sister-in-law, Carolyn Jacobs and husband John Nixon of Oak Ridge; brother-in-law, Michael Jacobs and wife Sherri of Morristown; nieces and nephews, Michael Jacobs and wife Angie of Knoxville and their children, Ashlyn and Tristan, who were very special to him; Brandon Jacobs and his son Ethan of Elizabethton, Ginger Branam and husband Barry of Knoxville, Debbie Barker of Knoxville, and Robert Barker of Texas.
The family received friends on Tuesday, July 8, 2014, from 6-8 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary. An Elks service began at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Weatherford Mortuary led by members of Lodge #1684, and the funeral service followed. Burial followed at Oak Ridge Memorial Park with military honors provided by the Morristown VFW Post #5266.
The family asks that memorials be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, the American Cancer Society, or the Emory Valley Center Building Fund.
