FRIDAY, JULY 4
Independence Day Fireworks Display – Oak Ridge – July 4
Location for Oak Ridge Community Band and 96.7 Merle FM programs:  A.K. Bissell Park – 1403 Oak Ridge Turnpike
The fireworks display will begin at 10:00pm and will once again be accompanied by music played live onsite by Jack Ryan, Radio Host for 96.7 Merle FM.   Jack will be broadcasting from Bissell Park beginning at 6:00pm and will conclude with a patriotic medley customized for the city’s fireworks.  The countdown to fireworks will begin at 9:30pm giving listeners plenty of time to settle down, tune in, and enjoy the show!  For more information or questions, call the Oak Ridge Convention and Visitors Bureau at 865-482-7821.
 
Oak Ridge Community Band Independence Day Concert – July 4
Location:  A.K. Bissell Park – 1403 Oak Ridge Turnpike.  Time:  7:30pm
This FREE concert will also celebrate the Community Band’s 70th anniversary with special guest performers including the Dixieland Band, Knoxville opera singer Lettie Andrade De La Torre, a chorus to sing “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” and the City’s annual fireworks display will follow the conclusion of the concert program.  Bring your lawn chair or blanket.  Razzleberry’s Ice Cream Lab will provide cool refreshments.  For more information, call 865-482-3568 or visit www.orcb.org.

Independence Day Weekend – The Secret City Scenic Excursion Train – July 5
Ride Times:  11:00am, 1:00pm, and 3:00pm
This train ride gives you the opportunity to experience the journey enjoyed by travelers during the golden age of rail travel in the 1930’s and 40’s.  Passengers will begin their journey back in time abroad Southern Railway coach Fort Oglethorpe, built in 1947. Advance reservations are required as seating is limited.  Call for ticket prices and departure times at 865-241-2140 and visit the website at www.southernappalachia.railway.museum.

Saturday Tennis – Saturday Tennis Group – Every Saturday
Location:  Jackson Square Tennis Courts – Broadway Avenue, Oak Ridge

Ballroom Dancing – Every Monday, 6:30 p.m.
Location:  Wildcat Den Room of the Midtown Community Center.

Soft Skills Training – July 8

Disc Golf:  Random Draw Doubles – Every Tuesday
Location:  Carl Yearwood Disc Golf Course – Bus Terminal Road, Oak Ridge

Career Coach at the Oak Ridge Library – July 9

DOE Facilities Bus Tour – thru August 29
Location:  This bus tour will depart from the American Museum of Science and Energy (AMSE) – 300 South Tulane Avenue.
This tour is free with paid admission to AMSE.  Dates:  Monday-Friday from June 2 thru August 29.
This tour explores the original Manhattan Project sites around Oak Ridge and tells the history behind the development of the world’s first atomic weapon.  Bus participants must be U.S. Citizens, have a photo ID, and be at least 10 years old.  For more information, contact AMSE at 865-576-3200 or visit www.amse.org.
 
“Nikon Small World” – American Museum of Science and Energy – thru September 14
Location:  American Museum of Science and Energy

Job/Health Fair – July 26

Admission – FREE!  There will be food, clothing, and educational vendors.

Time:  7pm.   There is a $50 admission fee until mid July – No admission at the door.

July 4th Celebration and Anvil Shoot – Museum of Appalachia – July 4
Museum of Appalachia – 2819 Andersonville Highway.
In addition to the historic anvil shoot and July 4th dramatic celebration, there will be mountain arts and crafts demonstrations and bluegrass music being played and sung throughout the complex!  For more information call 865-494-7680 or visitwww.museumofappalachia.org.
46th Annual Norris Day July 4th Celebration – July 4
Location:  Norris Commons – 1 Norris Square, Norris, TN
Running enthusiasts can begin the day with the Firecracker Road Run and later the children’s Dog Show will be held on the Norris Commons, followed by the one-mile Fun Run.  Don’t miss the children’s Wheel Race, the Bicycle Parade, the Water Balloon Toss or the Water-Ball Battles.  There will be sack races and duck races too!  One of the highlights is the wonderful barbeque dinner in the Norris Middle School cafeteria from 11:00am until 2:00pm.  Tickets for the dinners will be on sale in front of the Norris Post Office, at Hensley’s and at Archers prior to July 4th and in the cafeteria the day of the event.  Many of our community organizations will have booths on the Norris Commons and on the grounds of the Norris Middle School.  The day will conclude with a fireworks display on the Norris Commons!

Christmas in July – July 26
Location:  Historic Downtown Clinton.  Time:  10:00am – 5:00pm
The 6th Annual Christmas in July will take place in downtown Clinton and will have town-wide sales, holiday décor, a visit with Summer Santa, holiday music, and festival treats.  For more information, call 865-463-8699.
BBQ Cook-Off – July 26
Location:  205 Strutt Street, Oliver Springs, TN.  Time:  Begins at 11:00am
All proceeds will go to the development of the Carmichael Park in Oliver Springs, TN.  To enter the contest, call Julia H. Daniel at 865-789-0846.  Application deadline is July 1st.
