July 4 Celebration and Anvil Shoot
July 4 at Museum of Appalachia
July 4 will be celebrated in an unusual, dramatic, and traditional fashion at the Museum of Appalachia with historic anvil shoots. In addition, there will be demonstrations of mountain arts and crafts. Bluegrass, old time, and folk music will be played and sung on the porches of the cabins and in the old log church, hymn singing, and church services will be conducted. 46th Annual Norris Day July 4 Celebration
July 4 on the Norris Commons
The Norris Lions Club brings you the 46th Annual Norris Day celebration in downtown Norris. Running enthusiasts can begin the day with the Firecracker Road Run. Later, the children’s Dog Show will be held on the Norris Commons, followed by the one-mile Fun Run. No one will want to miss the children’s Wheel Race, the Bicycle Parade, the Water Balloon Toss, or the Water-Ball Battles. There will be sack races and duck races, too. One of the highlights of Norris Day is the wonderful barbecue dinner—barbecue pork and chicken with all the sides served by the Norris Lions Club in the Norris Middle School cafeteria from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. For more information, call (865) 368-4884.
Clinton Fireworks and July 4 Event
July 4 at Lakefront Park
The event will begin at 5 p.m. and end with fireworks at 10 p.m. Backyard Bouncers will be set up complete with a 68-foot obstacle course, three-lane water slide, bungee run, and more. Kids can also participate in a free round of laser tag. There will be food vendors, live entertainment, and antique cars to view. A corn hole tournament will also begin at 7 p.m., registration beginning at 6 p.m. Come and enjoy fun for the whole family! Concert on the Commons
Friday evenings in Norris
Concert on the Commons, Norris’ outdoor music series, will be held each Friday evening beginning at 7 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to bring a lawn chair, blanket, and picnic basket. This year’s line up will feature a varied mix of musical styles and genres with artists drawn from near and far. July Train Rides at Secret City Excursion Train
Enjoy a summer train ride on the Secret City Excursion Train on July 5, 18, or 19. Departure times will be at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. on July 5 and 19. On July 18, trains will depart at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. During the ride, passengers will hear the story of the Manhattan Project, which was one of the most remarkable industrial achievements ever accomplished. There will also be a dinner train on the July 19 at 6 p.m. Diners will be treated to a delicious entrée prepared by Chef Andras. Anderson County Fair
July 14-19
Come and enjoy a week full of fun at the Anderson County Fair. Monday, the Jason Stinnett Band performs at 6 p.m., and a truck pull begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday is Kids Fun Night and the Dash for Cash at 7 p.m. Wednesday, come and check out the Clinton Antique Car Club. On Thursday, the McKamey’s will be performing from 7-9:30 p.m. Friday is packed full of fun with a Demolition Derby starting at 7:30 p.m. Saturday includes a lawnmower and ATV pull beginning at 6:30 p.m. The fair gates open at 5 p.m. daily. July Exhibits at American Museum of Science and Energy
Through September 14, “Nikon Small World†is an exhibition of 20 award-winning photomicrographs of various science subjects. See the unseen. Through September 1, “Clinton Engineer Works (CEW) Real Estate Maps†detail the property boundaries before acquisition by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Imagination Station Summer Camps at the Children’s Museum of Oak Ridge
From June 9 through August 8, more than 70 camp sessions are available for children aged preschool to rising seventh graders. DOE Facilities Bus Tour
Through August 29
This tour is free with paid admission to the American Museum of Science and Energy and runs Mondays through Fridays during the summer, except holidays. Explore the original Manhattan Project sites around Oak Ridge and learn the history behind the development of the world’s first atomic weapon, which helped to end World War II.
