Shirley Ann Goodman

Shirley Ann Goodman, age 74, a resident of Knoxville, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, June 12, 2014.

Mrs. Goodman was born August 15, 1940, in Oliver Springs and moved to Knoxville nearly 60 years ago following her marriage to her beloved husband Fred.

In addition to being a loyal wife and exceptional mother, Shirley was a sensitive and gentle caregiver to scores of elderly patients during her 20-year career as a certified nursing assistant. Years later, after she and her husband enjoyed many post-retirement trips, Shirley was again called to service by becoming a full-time caregiver to Fred.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Jackson King Rather and Elsie Hembree Rather; her beloved daughter Sherry Lee Goodman-Doig; and six brothers and sisters.

She is survived and sorely missed by her husband of 59 years, Fred Goodman; by daughter, Kathy J. Goodman; by grandson, Daniel Scott Huskey; by grandchildren, Tara and Daniel Huskey, by her sister, Ruth Stout of Midtown; brother, Don Rather of Oliver Springs; and many loving friends and neighbors.

The family hosted an informal receiving of friends at 3 p.m. on Monday, June 16, 2014, at Sharp Funeral Home. It was immediately followed by a graveside service at Anderson Memorial Gardens.

Sharp Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. An online guest book is available at www.sharpfh.com.
