Helen Joyce Cooley, 79, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at her home.
Helen was born March 16, 1935, in Oneida, Tennessee. At the age of 8, she moved to Oliver Springs, where she had continued to live.
She was employed at both Burlington and Kyser/Rith and later at Abba in Rockwood before her retirement in 1995. She enjoyed feeding birds, squirrels, and animals that came into her lawn. She was a member of Southwest Baptist Church of Kingston.
Mrs. Cooley was preceded in death by her husband, Hughie Dean Cooley; by her father, John Urick Hicks; and by a grandson, William Heath Long.
She is survived by a son, William Clifford “Bill” Long and wife Tammy of Harriman; by her mother, Laura K. Hicks of Oliver Springs; by a great-granddaughter, Taylor Long of Dandridge, Tennessee; by sisters; Marsha Whaley and husband Jack, and Janice Henley and husband Ronnie; and by brothers, Hollis Hicks and wife Judy, and Murel Hicks and wife Dot, all of Oliver Springs; by brothers-in-law, W.C. Cooley of Athens, Tennessee, and James Cooley and wife Georgia of Midtown, Tennessee; and by sisters-in-law; Jessie Jones and husband Gene of Midtown, Tennessee, and Sue Ball of Athens.
She is also survived by an aunt, Delone Keeton of Huntsville, Tennessee, and by several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and a host of special friends.
The family received friends, Saturday, June 14, 2014, between 6 and 8 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home. The funeral followed in the funeral home chapel at 8 p.m. with Pastor Frank Massengill officiating. Burial and graveside services were held Sunday, June 15, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. at Jonesville Cemetery in Oliver Springs.
