Roy Joseph Johnson, age 98, formerly of Oak Ridge, died Monday, June 9, 2014, at his home in Sweetwater, Tenn.

He was born April 26, 1916, in St. Clair County, Alabama, one of seven children born to Thomas William Johnson and Willie Baldwin Johnson.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army. He retired from Union Carbide Nuclear Corporation, where he worked at the Y-12 plant as an iron worker.

Mr. Johnson attended Royce Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Land Johnson, on January 20, 2002; a daughter, Marsha Johnson; and a grandson, Johnny James Johnson.

He is survived by sons, Johnny M. Johnson and wife Janet of Sweetwater, and Kenneth H. Johnson and wife Shirley of Clinton; grandchildren, Brenda G. Johnson of Kilgore, Texas, Kenneth R. Johnson and wife Alison of Clinton, Steven K. Johnson and wife Kelly of Clinton, and Jessica Louise Henry and husband Ricky of Charleston, Tenn.; great-grandchildren, Randy Johnson and wife Heather of Oak Ridge, Kelly Johnson of Kilgore, Texas, Emma Louise Johnson of Clinton, Jonathan Johnson, Kerri Johnson, Josh Johnson, and Ty Johnson, all of Kilgore, Texas, Annabelle Henry of Charleston, Tenn., Will Johnson and Matt Johnson of Clinton; and five great-great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 12, 2014, from 5-7 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary. The funeral will follow at 7 p.m., with Rev. Terry Johnson and Rev. Randy Johnson officiating. Family and friends will meet on Friday at 10 a.m. at Oak Ridge Memorial Park for a graveside service.
