MONDAY, JUNE 9          

Aid to Distressed Families of Appalachian Counties (ADFAC) Dine & Donate Begins – June 9

On June 9th, the following restaurants will be donating a significant portion of their sales to ADFAC, a local nonprofit working to provide hope and stability to our less fortunate neighbors:  In Oak Ridge:  Pizza Inn, Razzleberry’s, and The Other One.  In Clinton:  Hoskins Restaurant.  For additional information, please visit, www.adfac.org.

 

Ballroom Dancing – Every Monday, 6:30 p.m.

Location:  Wildcat Den Room of the Midtown Community Center.

TUESDAY, JUNE 10

Leading a Multi-Generational Workforce:  An Employee Engagement & Coaching Guide – June 10

Location:  Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce – Joyce Conference Room – 1400 Oak Ridge Turnpike.  Time: 11:30-1:00

Disc Golf:  Random Draw Doubles – Every Tuesday

Location:  Carl Yearwood Disc Golf Course – Bus Terminal Road, Oak Ridge

Oak Ridge Farmers Market – Every Wednesday

Location:  Adjacent to Historic Jackson Square (East Tennessee Avenue, Oak Ridge).  Time:  3:00 – 6:00pm

 

ONGOING EVENTS:

DOE Facilities Bus Tour – thru August 29

Location:  This bus tour will depart from the American Museum of Science and Energy (AMSE) – 300 South Tulane Avenue.

This tour is free with paid admission to AMSE.  Dates:  Monday-Friday from June 2 thru August 29.

This tour explores the original Manhattan Project sites around Oak Ridge and tells the history behind the development of the world’s first atomic weapon.  Bus participants must be U.S. Citizens, have a photo ID, and be at least 10 years old.  For more information, contact AMSE at 865-576-3200 or visit www.amse.org.

 

Oak Ridge Municipal Outdoor Pool Open for the Summer!

Life Development Center – Haw Ridge Park

Located:  Haw Ridge Park on Edgemoor Road, Oak Ridge

Secret City Festival – The Secret City Scenic Excursion Train – June 13

June 13 – Secret City Festival – 1pm, and 3pm

This train ride gives you the opportunity to experience the journey enjoyed by travelers during the golden age of rail travel in the 1930’s and 40’s. Passengers will begin their journey back in time abroad Southern Railway coach Fort Oglethorpe, built in 1947.  Advance reservations are required as seating is limited.  Call for ticket prices and departure times at 865-241-2140 and visit the website atwww.southernappalachia.railway.museum.

 

“Nikon Small World” – American Museum of Science and Energy – June 13 – September 14

Boys Night Out! – East Tennessee’s Favorite Party Band – June 21

Dick Smyser Community Lecture Series featuring Dr. Marilyn A. Ninja 5K Race to Support the Wounded Warriors Project and Oak Ridge Graduation Celebration – June 28

Location:  Horizon Center in Oak Ridge – Novus Drive, Oak Ridge.

The Ninja 5K is a 3.1 mile race or walk.  The race course is very flat and accessible for all ages and abilities.  The race will be timed, but both runners and walkers are encouraged to participate.  Check-in on race day at 5:00-6:45pm.  Race will begin at 7:00pm.  Race will conclude at 8:00pm.  There will be Martial Arts Demonstrations at 6:00pm.  You can register early on Friday June 27^th from 11:00am-7:00pm at the Horizon Center.  For more information or to register online, visit http://www.ninja5k.com/.

Kids Fish Free Day – On the Clinch River – June 7

The Clinch River Chapter of Trout Unlimited will set up a FREE fishing day for kids on the bank of the Clinch River at the River road boat launch (Millers Island) on River Road off Highway 441, Norris.  Kids will fish from 9:00-1:00pm.  Children will be able to put on waders and fish in the Clinch (waders, spinning and fly rod setups provided), take boat rides, tie flies, eat hot dogs and sign up for prizes.  For more information, visitwww.crctu.org/calendar.
