Billie Jean Haddix

Billie Jean Haddix, “Nana,” 78, of Oak Ridge, passed from this earth to be with our Heavenly Father on May 14, 2014.

She was born February 5, 1936, in Harlan, Kentucky, to the late Bradley and Ida Perciful. She attended Loyall High School, where she was a member of the National Beta Club in 1952 and graduated in 1953.

She graduated from Eastern Kentucky College with a bachelor’s degree in education and soon became a schoolteacher. She married the late William H. Haddix on July 22, 1956.

She attended nursing school in Knoxville and, after graduating, became a LPN. She was a caring nurse for over 55 years.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was loved by many other family and friends and will be greatly missed.

Billie was preceded in death by her husband William H. Haddix; sisters Ruth Waller, Laura Smith, Myrtle Smith, and Peggy Calloway; and by brothers Archie Smith and Jim Smith.

Billie is survived by her daughter Lisa and husband Kevin Carter; grandsons Kevin Bradley Carter, Jordan Keith Carter and wife Dana, and Sean Gregory Carter and Ashley Edwards; and great-grandsons Gavin, Owen, Kanon, and Wyatt, as well as a host of nieces, nephews other relatives, and dear friends—”We love you so much, Nana.” Special friends include June and Ben Bailey, Julia Fisher, OH, Don and Helen Russell.

Visitation was with the family on Saturday, May 17, from 6-8 p.m. at the Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home, with a funeral service following at 8 p.m. with Rev. Robbie Leach officiating. Billie was laid to rest with her husband on Sunday, May 18, at Roselawn Memorial Park in Middlesboro, Kentucky, at 2 p.m.

Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home is serving the Haddix family.
