Bernard Garren Jenkins passed away on Saturday, May 24, at his home in Oak Ridge.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolora McCaslin Jenkins, and brother, James Ray Jenkins.
He was born April 27, 1918, in Vonore, Tenn. He graduated from Vonore High School in 1937 and then attended Carson Newman College.
He married Dolora Jenkins on January 6, 1940. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945-1946. They settled in Oak Ridge in 1944, and he worked for Oak Ridge National Laboratory for 42 years.
He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and is survived by three sons, 10 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. His family includes sons Richard and wife Rebecca of Oliver Springs, Alan and wife Peggy of Knoxville, Dan and wife Kathy of Oak Ridge; grandchildren Carmen Long (Ryan) of Knoxville, Kristie Fox (Sam) of Oliver Springs, Leanne Bowin (Jeff) and Rachel Arendt (Andy), all of Knoxville, Katie Black (Shaun) of Atlanta, Andrew Jenkins (Emily), Michael Jenkins (Emery), Aaron Jenkins (Megan), Jennifer Johnson (Matt), all of Knoxville, and Leslie Jenkins of Oak Ridge; and God-grandchildren BJ Kurtz (Megan) of Baton Rouge, La., and Nick Kurtz of Pocatello, Idaho.
He is also survived by sisters Barbara Dixon and Leah Marshall of Vonore.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 29, at Christ Community Church, 100 Ogden Lane, Oak Ridge from 5 to 7 p.m. with a memorial service following at 7 p.m. Graveside services will be Friday morning at 11 a.m. at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
