Mockingbird Run – Hosted by Smoky Mountain Classic Thunderbird Club – May 2-4
Car enthusiasts from ten states will gather in Oak Ridge on May 2-4 for the 6th Annual Mockingbird Run.  The Mockingbird Run is expected to bring in more than 60 Thunderbirds for a weekend packed with tours, friendship and fun!  A good time for residents to view the unique Thunderbirds will be during a parade drive from the Doubletree Hotel to the New Hope Center at Y-12 on Saturday, May 3 at 8:30am.  Another opportunity to view the cars is on Friday night in the back parking lot at the Doubletree Hotel.  For more information about this event, contact the Oak Ridge Convention and Visitors Bureau at 865-482-7821 or visitwww.oakridgevisitor.com.

“Celebrate Spring” – Emory Valley Center Fundraiser – May 2
Location:  St. Mary’s Church Gym – 323 Vermont Avenue, Oak Ridge.  Time:  6:00pm – 8:30pm

Saturday Tennis – Oak Ridge Tennis Club – Every Saturday
Location:  Jackson Square Tennis Courts – Broadway Avenue, Oak Ridge
Participate in an informal get-together of local tennis players on Saturdays. Exercise for Fitness – Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings

Aqua Power Classes – Every Monday and Wednesday

Disc Golf:  Random Draw Doubles – Every Tuesday
Location:  Carl Yearwood Disc Golf Course – Bus Terminal Road, Oak Ridge

ONGOING EVENTS:
Registration now open – Ninja 5K race
Registration is now open for the inaugural Ninja 5K race coming to Oak Ridge, TN on June 28, 2014.  This race was created to raise funds for the local Graduation Celebration event and to support the Wounded Warriors Project.  The Ninja 5K is a 3.1 mile race and walk planned for the Horizon Center in Oak Ridge.  The race course is very flat and accessible for all ages and abilities.  The race will be timed, but both runners and walkers are encouraged to participate.  The early-bird price is $20 for youth and $30 for adults.  Pre-registered race participants get an event t-shirt, and all youth participants will receive recognition for participating.  Awards will be given to the faster-than-lightning top 3 runners for both men and women.  All participants will be given access to our environmentally friendly virtual goodie bag as well which includes a free magazine subscription or a $20 cash back option.

Atomic Energy is a LIFE magazine exhibition – thru May 31
Location:Â Â American Museum of Science and Energy – Lobby
This exhibition was prepared in 1948 in consultation with the United States Atomic Energy Commission.  The vintage 24 photographic panel exhibition portrays the constructive uses of atomic energy and the need for international control.  Artifacts displayed are the exhibit’s shipping crate, an exhibition pamphlet stamped American Museum of Atomic Energy and several books mentioned in the pamphlet.  The exhibit was donated to AMSE in 2013 by the Samuel Hayes Research Library at Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown, MA.  For more information, visit www.amse.org or call 865-576-3200.

Registration Open for AMSE Science Explorer Camp – thru May 31

Life Development Center – Haw Ridge Park
Located:Â Â Haw Ridge Park on Edgemoor Road, Oak Ridge

“Journeys” – Celebrating the Long & Winding Road of Life – May 17

10th Annual Clinch River Spring Antique Fair – May 2 and 3

Oliver Springs Colored School Reunion – May 3
Location:  Disabled Veterans Building – 530 Kingston Avenue, Oliver Springs.  Time:  11:00am – 3:00pm
This year’s program will focus on “Historical Moments”, with special emphasis on coal miners.  Virginia Jo Hall Hickman will be speaking on the Coal Mining Days in Windrock, TN.  Everyone is asked to bring pictures of anyone who has worked in the mines and any coal mining artifacts for display.  There will also be a silent auction during the reunion.  There is a $5.00 donation request per person or $10 per household to attend the reunion.  All funds will go toward the development of the Carmichael Park.  For more information, contact Julia H. Anderson County Emergency Preparedness Fair – May 10

Barn Dance – May 30
