Steve A. Duncan, age 63, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Sunday, April 27, at Methodist Medical Center.
Steve was born May 25, 1950, in Oliver Springs. He was a lifelong resident of this area.
Steve enlisted in to the United States Army four days following his 18th birthday. He served his country in Vietnam, receiving several military engagement medals, ribbons, and accommodations.
Following his military discharge, Steve returned home and became a underground coal miner, working for Oliver Springs Mining Company and D&D Coal Company. Before his disability, he was employed in the construction business as a heavy equipment operator at B&D and Jackson Excavating.
He was a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, and he enjoyed fishing and hunting with family and friends.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Kyle and Lois Jones Duncan; by sons, Jason Allen Duncan and Shannon Joe Duncan; and by a brother, Eddie Duncan.
He is survived by daughters, Darla Rebecca “Becky” Henderson and husband Jon of Oliver Springs, and Tammy Spegal and husband Chris of Eaton, Ind.; by a son, Justin Kyle Golden of Clinton; and by grandchildren; Austin, Breanna, Jacob, Trevon, Joe, Charles, David, Devin, Briley, and Kylen.
He is also survived by brothers, Woody Duncan and wife Mary of Oliver Springs, Roger Duncan and wife Virgie of Coalfield, and Terry Duncan and wife Connie of Clinton; by a sister Lisa Smith and husband Jimmy of Oak Ridge; and by a host of nieces, nephews, special friends, and by his dog “Knot Head.”
The family received friends on Wednesday, April 30, between 6 and 8 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home. The funeral followed at 8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Garvan Walls officiating. Burial and graveside services with full military honors will be held, Thursday, May 1, at 1 p.m. at the Batley Cemetery.
