David Donald “Don” Owens, age 80, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Friday, April 4, at Methodist Medical Center.
Mr. Owens was born Feb. 13, 1934, in the Back Valley Community of Morgan County. He was a lifelong resident of this area.
Don served his country in the United States Army. While serving, he received several ribbons and decorations.
Before his retirement in 1999, he was employed for 33 years at the Y-12 Federal Plant in Oak Ridge as a senior production scheduler.
He was a faithful Christian and a member of the Beech Park Baptist Church.
He loved his family, flower gardening, traveling and especially reading.
Mr. Owens was preceded in death by his parents, Ola and Fannie Hinds Owens; by a sister, Grace McKinney; and by brothers, Johnny, Damon and Joseph Owens.
Don is survived by his wife of 55 years, Faye Davis Owens; by sons, Michael Donald Owens and wife Traci, of Ocala, Fla., and David Ronald Owens and fiancee’ Sandy of Oliver Springs; and by grandchildren, Brandon Owens of Ocala, Fla., Chloe Owens of Oliver Springs, and April Godwin of Ocala, Fla.
He is also survived by a host of special nieces, nephews, extended family, and special friends.
The family received friends Sunday, April 6, between 6 and 8 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home. The funeral followed at 8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Robbie Leach officiating. Burial and graveside services were held Monday, April 7, at 10:30 a.m. at Anderson Memorial Gardens.
