Note: The following letter was written in response to an earlier letter on traffic cameras by Oak Ridge resident T.J. Garland.
The Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce “weighs in†on issues of importance determined by a Pro-growth Advocacy Task Force, which recommends positions to the Chamber’s member-led Board of Directors. That task force did not choose to address the traffic camera issue and instead focused on other important matters such as widening Edgemoor Road, moving copy signs, and STEM education.
The City of Oak Ridge provides no operating funds to the Chamber. Those are provided through the financial support of our members.
We are not taxpayer-subsidized.

Mr. Hardy: Did you or did you not RECEIVED $175,000 dollars from the city of OAK RIDGE?? Do you not reside in a building owned by the city of OAK RIDGE that is a prime piece of PROPERTY for a mere $600 dollars a year?? I ask you then since you did not receive anything from the TAXPAYERS OF THIS CITY WOULD you kindly evict yourself from the property and mail the CHECK BACK TO THE CITY FOR $175,000 DOLLARS!!!
Mack Bailey says
When did the City of Oak Ridge stop being a Chamber member–do dues not provide operations funds to the ORCC?
Kay Williamson says
thank you Mack Bailey,
Sam Hopwood says
The Chamber was probably too busy soliciting more fast food eateries to locate in Oak Ridge with those well paying jobs, to “weigh in” on the speed camera debacle. First things first….
