Leslie Dale Begley, age 85, a resident of Oak Ridge, passed away Wednesday, March 12, at Methodist Medical Center.
Mr. Begley was born Oct. 1, 1928, in Busy, Ky. He lived in Corbin, Ky., for 13 years, before his move to Oak Ridge, in 2001.
Mr. Begley was a retired educator who taught at both a high school and college level. He was employed at M.C. Napier High School and Buckhorn High School in Hazard, Ky., and the Community College of Hazard, Ky.
He was a faithful Christian and a member of the New York Avenue Church of Christ in Oak Ridge. While living in Kentucky, he served the church as a minister, teacher, and elder.
Mr. Begley served his country in the United States Marine Corps. While serving, he received several medals, citations, ribbons, and awards.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bradley Begley and Myrtle Wooten Begley; by brothers, Lance, Prentice, Joel, Granville, and Bert Begley; and by sisters, Marinda Stacey and June Terry.
Mr. Begley is survived by his wife of 45 years, Modeane Moore Begley of Oak Ridge; by a daughter, Kimberly Jo Jeskie and husband Tom, of Harriman; by a son, Leslie Dean Begley and wife Leigh, of Chester, Va; and by grandchildren, Marinda and Sara Thomas, Benjamin, Kelsey, and Sierra Begley, and Jayme and Tiffany Jeskie.
He is also survived by sisters, Hettie Loriot of Lexington, Ky., and Winnie Whitaker of Dayton, Ohio; and by several nieces, nephews, extended family, and special friends.
The family received friends Friday, March 14, between 5 and 7 p.m. at New York Avenue Church of Christ. The funeral service followed at 7 p.m. in the church sanctuary with Harold Scott and Dennis Weingarber officiating. Burial and graveside services, with full military honors, were held Sunday, March 16, at 2 p.m. at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
