First Steps Child Development Center starts new calendar in fall

First Steps Child Development Center, located within First United Methodist Church in Oak Ridge, has announced new hours and a year-round school calendar.

Beginning in August, the center will be operating on a year-round basis from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the week instead of following the Oak Ridge school system calendar. The center will be in session most weeks of the year, including summer months and both fall and spring breaks.

To avoid losing their child’s spot in class, parents interested in the traditional academic calendar may pay a “holding fee” for the summer session.

“We will continue to have flexible enrollment for half-days or full-days, and the ability to choose which days of the week to attend,” the press release said, although some classrooms have minimum-day attendance requirements.

First Steps CDC offers developmentally appropriate and academically challenging learning environments for ages 6 weeks to pre-kindergarten.

“First Steps CDC has maintained top-ratings by the state of Tennessee since inception, and boasts a staff of credentialed teachers, many of whom have been with the center for over five years,” the press release said.

For more information, call (865) 483-6291 or email firststeps@fumcor.org. First Steps Child Development Center is at 1350 Oak Ridge Turnpike.
