Oak Ridge to play Jefferson County in state tournament Wednesday

Oak Ridge Wildcats 2014 District Champions

The Oak Ridge Wildcats boys’ basketball team will play Jefferson County in the first round of the state tournament on Wednesday.

The Division I Class AAA quarterfinals game starts at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday at the Murphy Center at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro.

The Oak Ridge Wildcats are 30-7, and the Jefferson County Patriots are 30-5. The Wildcats are Region 2-AAA runner-ups, and the Patriots are Region 1 runner-ups.

Oak Ridge beat the Dobyns-Bennett Indians 62-55 in a Class AAA sectional game on Tuesday to advance to the state tournament for the second year in a row. The Indians were Region 1 champions, beating Jefferson County 63-52 on Feb. 27.

Meanwhile, the Patriots beat the Powell Panthers 55-39 in another one of eight Class AAA sectionals on Tuesday. The Panthers became Region 2 champions with a 72-70 overtime win against Oak Ridge on Feb. 27.

Oak Ridge and Jefferson County last met at at the Tabernacle Thanksgiving Classic in the Bahamas on Nov. 27, and the Wildcats won that game 57-53.

Here is the schedule for the Division I Class AAA state boys’ basketball quarterfinal games on Wednesday:

  • Hamilton (27-6) and Blackman (25-6)—Wednesday at 10 a.m.
  • Wilson Central (26-6) and Brentwood (31-2)—Wednesday at 11:30 a.m.
  • Siegel (31-1) and Arlington (28-4)—Wednesday at 1:15 p.m.
  • Oak Ridge (30-7) and Jefferson County (30-5)—Wednesday at 2:45 p.m.

The semifinal games are at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Friday, and the championship game is at 2 p.m. Saturday.
