Obituary: Ellen Dee Webb Ellis

Ellen Dee Webb Ellis, age 92, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014 , at her home.

Mrs. Ellis was born on July 24, 1921 in South Pittsburg, Tenn. Her childhood home was in Richard City, Tenn. While in college, at Tennessee Tech University in Cooksville, Tenn., she met her future husband, John A. Ellis. The family settled in Kingston, the boyhood home of John A. Ellis, after World War II.

Ellen Dee was a faithful Christian and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Kingston. After the death of her husband, John A. Ellis, she moved to Oliver Springs and joined the First Methodist Church of Oak Ridge.

She enjoyed church family groups, flying, ballroom dancing, cooking, and teaching Red Cross first aid. Her professional career included employment as a secretary, a teacher, and as an administrator of MDTA in Roane County.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Robert Webb and Tennie Mae Neal Webb; by her husband, John A. Ellis; by a sister, Lucille Webb Hamill; and by a great-uncle, John R. Neal.

She is survived by a daughter, Amelia Ellen Ellis Jordan and John W. Jordan; by a son, Ken Anderson Ellis and wife Rebecca Darlene; by grandchildren, Thomas Jordan and wife Bianca, Craig Jordan and wife Stephanie Powell, Kathryn (K.D.) Jordan-Hamilton and husband Kyle Hamilton, and Mark Ellis and wife Heather; by four great-grandchildren, Tommy and Samuel Jordan, Sawyer Ellis, and Adalynn Jordan.

She is also survived by a special friend Thelma Justice and extended family members; nieces and nephews, Linda Hamill Johnson, Debi Hamill Hemond, and Mike Hamill; by great-nieces, Alyson Denton, Kristen Johnson, and Michele Johnson; a great-nephew, Matt Johnson; and by a great-great-nephew, Fin Denton; and by a great-great-niece, Riley Renfroe; and by Becky Neal Woody and Sharon Neal Jones, the daughters of a special uncle, John R. Neal.

The family received friends Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, between 6 and 7 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Oak Ridge with a memorial service following at 7 pm, with the Rev. Jenny Caughman officiating.
