Obituary: Charles “Chuck” Jerald Hope Sr.

Charles Hope

Charles “Chuck” Jerald Hope Sr., 76, loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather, died Tuesday, March 4, at Methodist Medical Center. Mr. Hope was a cancer survivor and had been in declining health for several years.

A resident of Oak Ridge since 1975, he was born in Harriman, Tenn., and grew up in Oliver Springs and Oak Ridge, before joining the Army in 1955. He served in the Far East, including Japan and Korea.

He is preceded in death by his parents Rose Ann Dickey Hope and Benjamin Franklin Hope Sr.; sisters Dorothy Litton McWright of Oak Ridge, and Mildred Beck Eitel of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and two brothers, Benjamin Franklin Hope Jr. of Harriman, and Sam Hope of Okeechobee, Fla.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years Patricia Ann Bane Hope of Oak Ridge; three sons and daughters–in-law: Charles J. and Mary Hope Jr. of Oak Ridge, Roger Allen and Tevis Hope, of Kingston, and Terry Lee and Leisa Hope of Oak Ridge; nine grandsons; and three sisters: Virginia Loclear Graham of Zepher Hills, Fla., Jo Wilcoxon of Mount Dora, Fla., and Betty Floyd Wooton of Branson, Mo.

The family will receive friends Thursday, March 6, from 4-7 p.m. at Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home followed by a Celebration of Life Service. Burial will be Friday morning at Oak Ridge Memorial Gardens with full military honors.

The family would like to encourage you to make a donation to your favorite community project or charity in memory of Chuck since he was involved with and worked in the Oak Ridge Community for more than 35 years.
