ORNL Federal Credit Union has named a vice president of brand, marketing, and communications strategy.

The new vice president, Tommy Smith, will be responsible for strategic direction and day-to-day operations of the credit union’s branding, marketing, and communications, as well as the enhancement and growth of the ORNL FCU brand, a press release said. Smith will report directly to ORNL FCU’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Melodie Godfrey.

“We are committed to delivering enhanced value to our members, which includes building an internal team of talented, experienced, and caring financial service professionals,” Godfrey said. “Tommy Smith will play a key role in ensuring that ORNL FCU continues to deliver on this promise to our members and the communities we serve.”

Before joining the ORNL team, Smith served as a member of Dell Inc.’s brand management and business development team in Austin, Texas, and Dublin, Ireland, where he was responsible for a global product portfolio and strategy for brand and marketing campaigns. Additionally, Smith acquired several years of experience in marketing and financial services through his work with companies such as FedEx, The Todd Greene Agency, Ask-Me Business Center, and his own financial company, TW Small Business Solutions, which served 10 Knoxville-area nonprofits and small businesses.

Smith earned his undergraduate degree in business administration from Emory and Henry College in Emory, Va., and his MBA in marketing from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He currently resides in Knoxville with his wife Jamie and new son Carter, where they are passionate about supporting the growth of the East Tennessee community, the press release said.
