Tanya Vargas
Dr. Tanya Vargas, co-medical director of the Free Medical Clinic of Oak Ridge, will discuss the impact of the Affordable Care Act on the clinic during Lunch with the League on Tuesday.
Vargas will be the guest speaker during the lunchtime meeting in the Social Hall of the Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church. Vargas’ presentation is scheduled to start at noon Tuesday.
The Free Medical Clinic of Oak Ridge was established to provide free healthcare and to promote a healthy lifestyle to low-income clients in Anderson, Morgan, and Roane counties who lack health insurance and cannot afford medical care, a press release said.
“Vargas will discuss the issues that are faced by the segment of the Tennessee population that is eligible for neither the Affordable Care Act insurance subsidies nor TennCare,” the release said.
Lunch with the League is open to the public, and it is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Oak Ridge. There is no cost to attend the Tuesday meeting, and reservations are not needed. Box lunches will be available starting at 11:30 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis for $8, or you may bring your own. Coffee and tea are provided.
Robertsville Road will be blocked at the Raleigh Road intersection due to road construction the week of Feb. 17. The parking lot at the church will be accessible from the Oak Ridge Turnpike. The Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church is at 1500 Oak Ridge Turnpike (traffic light #11). Enter Robertsville Road from Oak Ridge Turnpike and immediately turn left into the UU Church “exit” road.

If you are planning to attend the meeting, please be aware that construction is also affecting parking at the church. The narrow entrance to the parking lot will be two-way, so you may need to wait for an exiting car to leave before you can enter. The paved area between the UU Church and the Alliance Church has fewer spaces than normal because of several large piles of gravel, and mud and gravel on the paving may affect walking on that part of the lot. If you have difficulty walking, you may want to park in one of the spaces closest to the social hall or in the back of the lot toward the sanctuary. If you are more surefooted, please park in the closer to the Alliance Church or in the graveled area along Robertsville Road. Parking may also be available across Robertsville Road at the Midway Center (Wildcat Den). Someone will be directing traffic in the UU Church lot before and after the meeting.

The latest information on the construction progress indicates that the
entrance/exit to the ORUUC lot tomorrow may in fact be the current entrance,
up by the Alliance Church. That actually makes it easier to enter the church parking lot park in the
spaces up by the Alliance Church. The recommendations on where to park remain the
same.
