Obituary: Mildred Audrey Scruggs

Mildred Audrey Scruggs, a loving mother and grandmother and a kind and gentle person to all, passed away Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at Methodist Medical Center.

She was born Aug. 22, 1920, in Bose Mountain (Lycoming County) Penn., the daughter of LeRoy A. and Ceba Ann West Null.

Mrs. Scruggs was a member of the Oliver Springs Church of Christ. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and oil painting. She was also an avid collector of owls.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Clifton Scruggs, and infant daughter, Barbara Ann Scruggs, as well as seven sisters and three brothers.

She is survived by sons, Robert Ray Scruggs, Roy Clifton Scruggs Jr., B.C.E and wife Christine, and Jerry Scruggs and wife Vicky; daughter, Janie Preisel and husband Paul; four grandchildren, Suzanne May and husband Brian, Shannon Scruggs, Travis Scruggs and Justin Preisel; and five great-grandchildren, Lydia May, Amelia May, Anna May, Ryley Overbay, and Raylan Overbay.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Methodist Medical Center and to Dr. Ryan Wassenaar.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, Feb. 2, from 12:30–2 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary. The funeral will begin at 2 p.m. with Brother Richard Powlus officiating. A graveside service will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
