The Clinton Public Library will be offering a variety of free programs in the month of February in addition to its regular programming. These programs include classes for adults, a Valentine’s Party for teens, and an exhibit for the entire family.

On Monday, Feb. 3, the library will offer a Valentine’s-themed craft class at two times: 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Adults and high-schoolers are invited to join Janie Wolfenbarger in making a heart-shaped paper wreath, the perfect homemade gift for the Valentine in your life. Limited seating is available for these classes, so register today by calling the library at (865) 457-0519.

A free Computer Basics Class will be offered by the library on Friday, Feb. 28, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. This class will teach a basic understanding of computer hardware and peripherals, Microsoft Office, Adobe Reader, the Internet, and search engines. There are only eight seats available for this class. To reserve your seat, call the library at (865) 457-0519.

Each Tuesday in February, local historian Stephanie Hill will be teaching basic genealogy workshops from 6 to 8 p.m. These workshops will be offered on Feb. 4, 11, 18, and 25, and they are titled Organizing and Planning a Research Trip; Exploring Local, State, and Federal Resources; Exploring Internet Resources; and Getting the Most out of Census Records. Sign up for any or all of these workshops by calling the library at (865) 457-0519.

Throughout the month of February, adults are invited to sign up for the library’s annual Winter Reading Club. This year’s theme is “Take a Vacation… with a Book!” After signing up, adults are challenged to read or listen to three books of their choice by Saturday, March 15, in order to win a beachy book tote. Adults may register at the library or at www.clintonpubliclibrary.org.

Whether in love or flying solo, teens in grades 6-12 are invited to a Valentine’s Party on Monday, Feb. 10, from 3 to 5 p.m. This party will include games, DIY cake pops, and a Valentine’s button craft.

In observance of Black History Month, the library will be displaying an exhibit in its foyer throughout the month of February provided by the Green McAdoo Cultural Center. This exhibit will pay tribute to the Clinton 12, the first students to desegregate a state-supported high school in the South. Visit the library at 118 S. Hicks Street to view this exhibit.

For more information about these programs, call the library at (865) 457-0519 or visit the library website at www.clintonpubliclibrary.org.
