An organ recipient will discuss organ transplants during an Altrusa Club meeting on Wednesday.
The presentation by Jill McMaster will be titled “Allocating Organs for Transplant: Rationing the Gift of Life.†The luncheon meeting will be at the Double Tree Hotel.
“Because the demand for life-saving transplants greatly exceeds the availability of donated organs, the ethical and analytical challenges are enormous,” McMaster said. Those ethical and analytical challenges will be discussed during her presentation.
McMaster has supported organ transplantation in the United States for many years, a press release said. Working with the Organ Procurement and Transplant Network, she brings the public perspective to the process of establishing national policy to allocate organs for transplant.
McMaster has served on the network’s board of directors for eight years, and for two of those years, she served as vice president for patient and donor affairs, giving her a national perspective and insight on this issue, the release said.
Additionally, McMaster is coordinator of the Roane County affiliate of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. She also plays the French horn in the Oak Ridge Community Band, is an active Rotarian and Tai Chi enthusiast, and was a finalist in the 2013 YWCA’s Tribute to Area Women.
Altrusa International is a service organization comprised of community members focusing on leadership, partnership, and service with an emphasis on literacy and education.
The meeting starts with a lunch buffet at 11:45 a.m. followed by a short business meeting and then the program. Visitors with a reservation are welcome to attend. Guests may request a reservation by sending an email to [email protected]. The lunch costs $13.
