On Dec. 17, 2013, Otis Marvin Vermillion, age 84, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He and his wife, Laverne Vermillion, had just celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary in the afternoon, and he was then called home to Heaven in the early evening hours.
He was a devoted husband, loving father, and amazing grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved his family and life and lived it to the fullest.
O.M. “Pee Wee” was employed at the Y-12 plant for 38 years. He was an avid pilot and motorcyclist. As a longtime member of Central Baptist Church in Oak Ridge, he served the Lord in many capacities over the years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Otis Vermillion and Beulah Vermillion Stallard; sister, Peggy Jean Lark; and brother, Billy James Vermillion.
He is survived by his wife, Laverne Vermillion; brother Ricky Stallard; daughter Chris Floyd and husband Tommy; son Tony Vermillion and wife Lisa; five grandchildren, Jeff Barnette and wife Barbara, Sara Waynick and husband Christopher, Katherine Vermillion, Natalie Vermillion, Robby Floyd and wife Katrina; and four great-grandchildren, Amelia Waynick, William Barnette, Taylor Floyd, and Haleigh Floyd. He is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces, and extended family.
A celebration of life service was held on Saturday, Dec. 21, at Central Baptist Church in Oak Ridge. Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. with the funeral at 8 p.m. A graveside service was held on Sunday, Dec. 22, at 1 p.m. at the Anderson Memorial Gardens.
