Obituary: Lindon E. ‘Sonny’ Hamrick Jr.

Lindon E. “Sonny” Hamrick Jr., age 74, of Clinton, formerly of Johnson City, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, at Golden Living Center–Windwood in Clinton.

Lindon was a member of Skyland Heights Baptist Church in Johnson City, where he played the trombone and sang in the choir. Lindon loved music. He began playing the trombone in fifth grade and continued playing throughout college. For more than 20 years, Lindon played his trombone with the YMCA orchestra in Greenville. For 10 years, he played with the Community Band in Greenville and Johnson City. Lindon also enjoyed sports and staying fit.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lindon Sr. and Audrey Hamrick; sister, Patsy Hamrick; special brother-in-law, Rondol Loy; great-nephew, Tony Williams; and former wife, Judy Hamrick.

Lindon is survived by daughter, Becky Estep and husband David; sons, Ben Hamrick and wife Lisa, Lin Hamrick, and Michael Hamrick and wife Summer; sister, Peggy Loy; aunt, Polly Dickson; former wife, Karen Hamrick Miller; grandchildren, Christopher Estep, Jonathan and Zachary Hamrick, and Jonas Hamrick; special nieces and nephews, Jeff Loy and wife Evelyn, Patti Williams and husband Ronnie, Keith Loy and Polly, Tim Loy and wife Cheryl; and special great-nieces and nephews, Blake and Tanner Loy, Rachel Robinson and husband Mikie, Tiffany Price, husband Casey and children Macey and Brayden, Ross Williams, wife Ashlee and daughter Kylie and Amy Williams and Stephan.

The family held a graveside service for Lindon on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at Happy Valley Memorial Park in Elizabethton, Tenn., with Rev. Donald Page officiating.

Jones Mortuary in Clinton was in charge of all arrangements.
