Volunteers have organized a free, hot meal this afternoon for the homeless, lonely, and those who have no family.

It’s the Second Annual Feed the People Thanksgiving Dinner, and it’s from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday at High Places Community Church in Oak Ridge.

“We simply do not want anyone to be alone on Thanksgiving,” organizers said.

The volunteers could serve several hundred meals, and they will deliver food to shut-in residents later today, organizer Kandace Tucker said. They will bring food to Callaghan Towers, Emory Valley Center, 82 E. Tennessee Ave., and Honeysuckle Lane this evening.

“We just want people to know that there is someone out there that still cares,” Tucker said. “We don’t want anyone to be without today.”

Besides Tucker, other organizers include Tara Lang, Mary Hagen, and Kay Williamson, with help from Clark Walker and Pam (last name unknown), who is doing a lot of the cooking.

“We also will pick up or deliver food to anyone in the Oak Ridge area,” Williamson said. “No one should be alone or hungry, and we are doing everything to feed everyone.”

For more information, contact [email protected] or Tucker at (865) 748-3320 or Williamson at (865) 936-2198.

These folks worked very hard to feed the citizens of this city who are going through tough times. They should get the Key to the City and I want Mark Watson to hand deliver it to Kay.
