Minnie Louise Thompson

Minnie Louise Thompson, age 83, of Oak Ridge, celebrated her home-going at her home on Nov. 25, 2013.

She was born to the union of the late Linzie and Frances Lott of Duck Hill, Miss., on June 7, 1930.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her sons, Lindsay (Shirley) Nix of Chicago, Ill., J. C. “Jerry” (Dorothy) Nix of Pikeville, Tenn., David Nix and Henry Nix of Knoxville; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; specials friends, Mrs. Janice Thomas, Elvin and Pearl Staples, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Henderson, and Mrs. Mary Threat; and a host of other friends.

She was an active member of Oak Valley Baptist Church for more than 50 years. Mrs. Thompson was an LPN with the Children’s Clinic for many years and retired from Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

After retirement, she stayed very active in the community, serving on many committees. She was very dedicated to the Office on Aging. She received many awards for her service, which included: The Covenant Platinum Award, AARP Chapter #625 Certificate of Appreciation, Oak Valley Community Service Certificate, “Keep the Dream Alive” Community Service Award of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Oak Valley Pastors Community Service Award, Oak Valley Certificate of Merit, Certificate of Achievement Tutoring Staff, Senior Center Public Service Award, Volunteer Appreciation Award from the Estates of Oak Ridge, Oak Valley Certificate of Appreciation, Certificate of Recognition-Anderson County Hero nominee, Certificate of Appreciation from the Anderson County Office on Aging, Service Above Self from the Oak Ridge Breakfast Rotary Club, Oak Valley Vacation Bible School, NAACP Service Award, Mother of the Year, and Expert Marksman from the Citizens Law Enforcement Training Academy.

Mrs. Thompson loved to spend time visiting the nursing homes and playing bingo and writing poetry.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Office on Aging, 125 Leinart Street, Suite 5, Clinton, TN 37716.

The family wishes to acknowledge with deep appreciation the many expressions of love and kindness during the passing of their loved one.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, Nov. 30, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary. A graveside service will follow at 1 p.m at Oak Ridge Memorial Park with Rev. Walter Ghosten officiating.
