Born on Jan. 23, 1943, Janet Haire passed away at home on Nov. 15, 2013, in Oak Ridge.
Janet is preceded in death by her mother, Sue Edwards; her father, William Newsom; and her step-father George Edwards.
Janet grew up in Jacksonville, N.C., where she met her husband, Jonathan Haire. After obtaining a degree in chemistry at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, she worked as a biochemist until the birth of her daughters. Much of her life was devoted to her family.
Janet later worked at the library at Linden Elementary School and volunteered for many years at the library at First United Methodist Church. Janet enjoyed hiking, canoeing, gardening, and spending time and traveling with her family.
She is survived by her husband Jonathan Haire of Oak Ridge; her daughter Sarah Bondos and husband Joseph Bondos of College Station, Texas; her daughter Rebecca Nutbrown and husband Tom Nutbrown of Houston, Texas; and her grandchildren David, Rachel, and Katherine Nutbrown.
Services will be held to celebrate Janet Haire’s life on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at First United Methodist Church in Oak Ridge, with the Rev. Troy Forrester officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church, with the service beginning at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Friends of the Smokies, P.O. Box 1660, Kodak, TN 37764-7660.
