Nancy Karen Cross

Nancy Karen Cross, 55, of Oak Ridge, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013, at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Nancy was a security specialist and worked 27 years, most recently for BJOR at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on April 17, 1958, the daughter of Rice and Mary Nelms Cross.

Nancy graduated from Oak Ridge High School in 1976 and the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

Nancy enjoyed family, friends, and her beloved pets, Pepper and Chase.

Nancy was loved by all who knew her. She was a member of West Village Christian Church. Nancy was an avid swimmer and won numerous awards with the Atomic City Aquatic Club and the Masters Swim Program.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by two sisters, Jane Schneider Simmons and her husband Mark of Oak Ridge, and Kelly Ann Loveless and her husband Paul of The Woodlands, Texas; and brother, Ric Cross and his wife Holly of Oak Ridge. She was a sweet and loving aunt to nephews, James Schneider, Jacob Schneider, Josh Schneider, Paul Loveless Jr., and Daniel Cross; nieces, Natalie Cross and Lynsey Loveless Davis; her great-niece, Sophie Marie Loveless; and a special aunt, Ann Nelms Beard of Johnson City.

The family extends a special thanks to companion Mike Henderson and for the special care given by Judy Ezell, and to Dr. Michael Thompson and the loving staff at Methodist Medical Center.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Nov. 16, from 5–6:30 p.m. at West Village Christian Church in Oak Ridge. The funeral will follow at 6:30 p.m. with Rev. Mike Lacy officiating. The burial at Oak Ridge Memorial Park will be private.

The family asks that any memorials be made in Nancy’s memory to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
