Obituary: James T. ‘Pete’ Blackmon Jr.

James T. “Pete” Blackmon Jr., of Oak Ridge, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013.

Mr. Blackmon retired from Union Carbide Nuclear Corp., where he was an engineer. After retirement, he taught at the University of Tennessee, a job he loved and was very proud of.

He was preceded in death by son, Joseph “Joe” Peter Blackmon.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Alexa B. Blackmon; son, Michael “Mike” Earl Blackmon and wife Debra “Debbie” of St. Cloud, Fla.; granddaughters, Rachel E. Alexander and husband Jeff of Tampa, Fla., and Dr. Ashley R. B. Sarb and husband Matt of Biloxi, Miss.; and great-grandchildren, Ronan Alexander, Ella Alexander, Alexa Sarb, and Everett Sarb.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, Nov. 7, from 5–7 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary. The funeral service at Weatherford Mortuary is Friday at 1 p.m. with Rev. Richard S. Edwards officiating. The burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
