Thelma Lyles went to sleep in Jesus on Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, while sleeping at home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill†Lyles; her son, Gary Blount Lyles; a daughter, Karen Sue Lyles; and two grandsons, Allen “Sonny†Cox III and William “Les†Lyles.
Thelma met her love and husband, William, in Savannah, Ga., where they were married on June 5, 1943. They were married for 64 years. They returned to Coalfield, Tenn., after marriage, where Bill had resided all his life. Here, Thelma and Bill raised their family: one son, Gary, and four daughters, Charlotte Ann Isbell, Jeannette Cox, Regina Kay Cross, and Karen Sue Lyles.
Additionally, she has one son-in-law, Eddie Cross, and she had eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. Wade Adcock, wife Star, and son Jake were considered as family.
Thelma was a marvelous homemaker. She was known as one of the hardest-working persons ever, assisting anyone who ever asked. She worked day and night to take care of her family.
Thelma was a devout Christian of the local Seventh-day Adventist Church. She was not granted too much formal education, but she was well known for her knowledge of the Bible. In fact, whenever anyone began to quote a scripture verse, she could finish the verse and usually told you where it was found.
The family received friends Sunday, Oct. 13, between 2 and 3 p.m. at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Coalfield. Funeral services followed at 3 p.m. in the church with Pastor Lonnie Cook officiating. Burial and graveside services were held immediately following the funeral service at the Estes Cemetery in Coalfield.
Sharp Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. An online register book is available at www.sharpfh.com.
