Stephen Stanley Howell

Stephen Stanley Howell, age 65, of Oliver Springs, died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013.

He was preceded in death by his father, Allen Stanley Howell; his mother, Ruth V. Cameron Howell; his son, James Allen “Al” Howell; his brother, Bobby Joe Howell; and his sister, Kay Howell Lindsey of Chesterfield, Va.

He is survived by his sister, Virginia Howell Livesay (Robert) of Southport, Fla.

Mr. Howell was a graduate of Oak Ridge High School, and after serving in the U.S. Army, returned to Oak Ridge to work for Union Carbide Nuclear Corp for 22.5 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, where he served with the First Air Calvary Division and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry.

The family received friends on Saturday, Oct. 5, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at Weatherford Mortuary. A graveside service was held at 12 p.m. at Oak Ridge Memorial Park with military honors provided by the Tennessee National Guard Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity or church of the donor’s choice.
